WARSHIPS and aircraft from the Combined Maritime Forces will now patrol the Gulf of Aden in an attempt to stengthen the deterrent to pirate attacks. NAVCENT, the US command in the Persian Gulf, has directed that a Maritime Security Patrol Area be established. Vessels and aircraft in the new MSPA will work under the command of Coalition Task Force 150, headed by Commodore Bob Davidson of the Canadian Forces Maritime Command.

Gulf of Aden - suspected pirate vessels

KUALA LUMPUR 12 AUGUST 2008 – THE IMB’s Piracy Reporting Centre is warning all ships transiting the Gulf of Aden of intelligence reports of two suspicious trawlers in the Gulf of Aden believed to be pirate mother vessels looking to attack ships. The suspect trawlers are described as long, white-coloured, Russian-built stern trawlers with named Burum Ocean and Arena or Athena. One of the trawlers is believed to be operating in the area 60n-miles NE of Bossaso, Somalia.
All ships are strongly advised to maintain a strict 24-hour visual and radar watch while transiting these waters and report any attacks or suspicious boats including the trawlers named above to the 24 hour IMB PRC.
